Spring makes everything look filthy.-Whitehorn

April 18, 2009

Ah, Spring!  It’s supposed to be 76 degrees today, and I’m cooped up at the library!  At least I’m finally back to work after surgery and a bout of bronchitis indirectly brought on by my operation…it’s the first day I’m actually feeling well enough to do anything in over two weeks!  So, without further adeiu, let’s just jump on in for ideas of what to do for this weekend and beyond!

Flower power

On a weekend such as this, many people are inspired to fix up the yard/deck/patio…what have you.  I’m no exception.  I’ve spent the last 24 hours looking up who’s got the best deals around, and here’s what I have found–for common flowers, go to Lowe’s.  I’m not a fan of big box stores, but they have unbelievably well priced flats of pansies in gorgeous colors, a good variety of other plants such as heather and primroses, and daily specials on their websiteTrue Value has a $5 coupon on their website for any purchase of $25 or more AND are running a special on Benjamin Moore paint at $5 off per gallon (my pick?  The resin Adirondack chairs in apple green and periwinkle!). Daisy Garden has great deals on vegetable plants, and if you’re looking to have some fun while you are out, check out the Flower and Garden Shoppe in Sayville with birds and animals located all over the premises and sure to thrill kids of all ages; and the Holtsville Ecology Site, where you can get FREE compost and visit their zoo while you are there!

Don’t miss it!

Beach Party at The Harbor Crab TONITE, 8PM to close, NO COVER! Live music by “Next Level” Reggae & dance music, Absolut vodka specials & giveaways, $5 Absolut mudslides, fire-pit outside!  Bring a friend or three…

At the Cinema Arts Center–every member who buys a ticket this weekend for Valentino: The Last Emperor, Adventureland, or Sugar gets a FREE pass to the Green Living Expo on April 25-26!

The Bay Area Friends of the Arts presents the Annual High School Student Invitational Art Exhibit at the BAFFA Gallery, Gillette House, 47 Gillette Avenue, Sayville. A reception for the artists will be held on Sunday, April 26 from 1PM until 4PM. The Gallery will be open for this exhibit on that day and the following weekend. For information call 631 589-7343 or visit baffa-li.org.

While my guitar gently weeps…

No wine before its time

A couple of quick wine posts to let you know about–Water’s Crest is doing their barrel tasting next weekend as well at $10 per person; Corey Creek will be doing their usual end of month wine and cheese pairing at $15 per person; and Osprey’s Dominion is hosting a FREE art show on Saturday and a barrel tasting on Sunday at $5 per person.  Remember, you usually need to make reservations to attend these events so don’t wait!

All for now, you kooky cats!  Got something that should be here?  Let me know at cheapdateli@gmail.com!
